These are photos from our tour of the lower 9th ward and St Bernards Parish in New Orleans. These are two of the areas that were most devistated by Katrina. The lower 9th ward was where the levi broke and the houses were flooded with water. The majority of homes are unlivable and the people are too poor to rebuild. Either that or they cannot prove to the government that they owned their homes - documents were lost or homes were passed down - so they havent been able to rebuild. St Bernards Parish was also completely flooded to roof tops and had the most deaths. Its hard to explain these places in pictures - and things are much better than they were even a year ago - but its still a very sad sight.

I'm Melisa and the purpose of this blog was to share my week in Kenner, Louisiana with you (April 6-12, 2008). A team from our church - Live Oak Vineyard - was working with other volunteers from around the country to help with the relief efforts around New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina.
