Final Thoughts....
Overall, this trip to New Orleans was an amazing experience. Not only did I work hard and learn a couple of new trades, but more importantly I was able to serve others… as I am called to do. This is not something that should be reserved for tragedy but is something that should be walked out daily. And I must say that it’s not easy to remember but I’m going to continue to try. ...
Friday Night: Our evening in Downtown NEW ORLEANS!... →
There are only a few pictures but this gives you a little taste of my favorite city in the US… New Orleans! We started the evening at a great restaurant in the Garden District where we tried FRIED GREEN TOMATOES (Yum!!!) and ALLIGATOR (mmmm!.. I made everyone try it!). Then we drove around and looked at the beautiful houses in the area. After that we made our way downtown and walked around...

Here are photos of all of the team members in action… minus Josh. Josh was on a different team so we dont really have proof as to whether or not he actually worked……. :)
Update for Thursday...
Just a small note to let you all know that I finished my floors today. I successfully finished the tile in one room and grouted two rooms. I can hardly believe it myself. Didnt know I had it in me. :) It was quite fun. I finished everything by about 2pm and then had to wipe down all of the floors to get the film off of them. Tomorrow I get to finish up the process while Floyd finishes putting up...
Today... Wednesday
Today we were at Angelines house again. Mary D., Laurie Fig., Floyd & I were all working at Angeline’s with various tasks. My task today was to grout the floor tile that I had laid the previous day… Floyd wants me to complete my “masterpiece”… :) Lets just say that I thought I was sore yesterday… boy was I wrong. And I’m sure tomorrow wont be any...
Day 2.... laying groundwork...
Day 2… and I’m a little sore. :) Today we continued our work on Angelines house and I learned how to lay floor tile! I worked with FLoyd and we were able to get 3/4 of a room done and finish up a little tile in another room. I must say that we rocked the floor tile. I think that Floyd is truly inspired… anyone need to hire a tileman? Mary & Laurie were able to finish up...

Day 2 - At the job site.
Our day started at 6:45am…which would be 4:45am back home… wow…. We had a brief meeting/orientation and then breakfast at 7am. After breakfast, our orientation continued as we learned camp rules, job site rules, and most importantly, we learned about the families that we’d be helping. There are about 20 volunteers here this week and for those of you that dont know, there...
Day One in Louisiana →
These are photos from our tour of the lower 9th ward and St Bernards Parish in New Orleans. These are two of the areas that were most devistated by Katrina. The lower 9th ward was where the levi broke and the houses were flooded with water. The majority of homes are unlivable and the people are too poor to rebuild. Either that or they cannot prove to the government that they owned their homes -...
Day One...
Well its day one and we have arrived! All is well and thank you for your prayers! Our trip was safe and easy and quite enjoyable. We arrived in Louisiana around 1:30pm today and after a nice hearty lunch at Chili’s we traveled to the lower 9th ward of New Orleans to get an idea of the devestation. I know that this is nowhere near where it was after Katrina but you can still get an idea of...
Packing and getting ready
Boy I’ve had a busy day! Scott and I ran errands all over the place, I’ve done our taxes, and packed for my trip to New Orleans. I’m flying out tomorrow with a group of my friends from the Live Oak Vineyard to join hundreds of other volunteers at the Kenner Vineyard in Kenner, LA to help with clean up, construction, or whatever else we can do to help families recover from...
